The rich musical legacy of Tralee Pipes and Drums, a distinguished Irish pipe band founded in 1965 by the visionary Bobby Myles. Hailing from the picturesque county town of Tralee, County Kerry, this band has not only etched its name in the history of Irish music but has also played a pivotal role in nurturing talent and preserving the cultural heritage of the Irish piping in Munster. 


Steeped in tradition, Tralee Pipes and Drums owes its inception to Bobby Myles, who laid the foundation in 1965. The band has flourished under the guidance of its longest-serving member, the invaluable Johnny Sheehan, who has not only contributed to the musical prowess of the band but also made significant contributions to the Irish Pipe Band Association (IPBA).

Golden Years (2010–2016):
The period from 2010 to 2016 marked a glorious era for Tralee Pipes and Drums. During this time, the band clinched victory in the All Ireland Pipe Band Championships in grade 4A and proudly emerged as world champions in the same category. These triumphs solidified Tralee Pipes and Drums' reputation as a powerhouse in the Irish pipe band scene.



The band boasted an impressive line-up of talented musicians who have graced its ranks over the years. Notable names include Chris Shortt, Christy Bromwell, Mark Griffin, Cian O’Saughnasaigh, John Hunt, Seamus Hunt, Paudie Hunt, Andrew Dowling, Venessa Dowling, Ann Fitzgerald, Bri Long, Con O’Callaghan, Jamie Kennedy, Noel and Livia Beasley, Gerard Baynham and many more. Their collective artistry has contributed to the band's enduring success.

Collaboration with Munster Towns:
Tralee Pipes and Drums has fostered collaboration with neighboring Munster towns, drawing on the musical richness of Newcastle West Pipe Band, Killorglin Pipe Band, Valentia Pipe Band, City of Limerick Pipe Band and Mallow Pipe Band. This pool of talent has created a rich piping tapestry, showcasing the unity of musical expression across the region of the Southwest. 

Legacy and Future:
As of 2023, Tralee Pipes and Drums continues its commitment to passing on the torch of musical tradition. Through weekly teachings for new piping and drumming recruits, the band is actively shaping the future of Irish music and Irish Piping. With a focus on training hundreds of enthusiastic kids around Munster, Tralee Pipes and Drums looks poised to continue its storied legacy for generations to come.
